Meta data is only used by search engine spiders. It appears above the HTML code that forms the underpinnings of your site's presentation layer.
Meta data includes such things as your site's name, URL and key word tag. Once the most important factor in search engine results, keyword tags in meta data don't have the weight they once did.
SEO tips:
1. submit your site map to Google and Yahoo. This provides spiders with a set of directions and "personal" invitation.
2. Add HTML title tags to each page. Each tag becomes a Google listing, thus providing many more site access points. That's why, if I search "Harry Potter" on Google, one listing on the first search engine results page (SERPs) will be for Amazon. If I click on it, I'm taken directly to the Harry Potter page rather than coming through Amazon's front door.
3. Even though meta data stays the same from site page to site page, add it to every page. SE bots are none-too-bright.
4. Avoid keyword stuffing. 2-3% is good. Anything over 5% starts to sound like gibberish.
5. Use embedded text links in the main texts of your site. Search engine spiders follow links, so if you give them a lot of links within your site, spiders stay longer, index more and provide a more accurate picture of your site.
6. Use your HTML description tag to appeal to humans, not spiders. The description tag content appears directly under the blue link for your site on SERPs.
7. Avoid anything that even hints at black hat tactics, i.e. no invisible text, title tags match page data, keyword density of less than 5% in main text; 50% in headers.
8. Place keywords in headlines, underlined, bolded or italic text.
9. Focus on your top five keywords and phrases at first. Then, gradually expand your list.
10. Finally, visit Google's webmaster central. This search engine runs the web world so you might as well do exactly what the Googlistas want, and they tell you what's legal (and good) and what isn't regarding SEO.

In order to get a good rank in search engine you should optimize your blog properly. But that is only one of the way to get good ranking. You must also do other things to make sure that your blog content get extra exposure. By doing that you will increase chances of your blog being visit by visitor.
If you want to increase your off page SEO on Blogspot bblog you must do the following tips:
1.make sure your blog title is SEO friendly
2.make your Meta Keywords and Description SEO friendly too
There are many other tips you can find from forum or blog. But I think for the moment you should do the above thing first and then try the other tips you found from the internet.
You need to modified your blog template a little. Don't worry it only an easy one

The folks who give you an email address, complete a form or perform some other MDA are future prospects.
That email address is permission to backsell the opt-in – to his grave if you want. So, by collecting email addresses, you can do email blasts, auto-responders, newsletters, etc. to keep you site URL in front of the eyes of potential customers/clients.
It doesn't have anything to do with Google rank.

It wont be the first.
You can put your site on there though… That is what web crawlers are for.
In your website make sure the appropriate meta tags are included, this will also increase the chances of your site coming up.

Ask any candidate SEO firm a simple question:
Show me one of your client's site which can be found using "generic" keywords [not a domain name] as a search query on google.com or yahoo.com search engines and limit the generic keyword query to no more than 4 words. The search result must show that the website is PageRanked within the top 15 search results.
If your candidate SEO firm says that cannot be done. Then perhaps consider spending $20 on Peter Kent's "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies.. which provides sufficient expert strategies to elevate your website to a greater audience on major search engines.
